Memphis in May International Festival is a 501-C(3) not-for-profit, community-based organization that contributes to the economic growth of the community, fosters civic pride, promotes awareness of Memphis heritage and builds international relationships.
Memphis in May is proud to produce two of the city’s largest events including; the World Championship Barbecue Cooking Contest and the Great American River Run.
What We Do
World Championship Barbecue Cooking Contest
Recognized by USA Today as the “Most Prestigious Barbecue Contest,” the Memphis in May World Championship Barbecue Cooking Contest is a four-day competition held at Liberty Park in Memphis, TN.
Since the first contest in 1978 teams representing the best of barbecue have been honing their craft to compete for the title of Memphis in May World Champion and a share of the more than $190,000 in prize money. The contest features championship pork categories of Ribs, Shoulder, Whole Hog, and Patio Porkers as well as the ancillary competitions of Hot Wings, Sauce, and “Anything But Pork.”
Great American River Run
Celebrating over 10 years, the Great American River Run is a Half Marathon, 10K and 5K running event on Memorial Day weekend. The course routes runners along the banks of the Mississippi River and through downtown Memphis.
