MIM VOLUNTEER PORTAL GUIDE


Thank you for your interest in volunteering your time and talents to Memphis in May!  We appreciate all the new and returning volunteers who join us each year to produce two of the city's largest events; the World Championship Barbecue Cooking Contest and the Great American River Run.  For nearly 50 years, Memphis in May volunteers have been critical to our mission of promoting and celebrating Memphis culture, fostering economic growth and enhancing international awareness through education.  So again, we thank you!

How To Use the MIM Volunteer Portal

This brief guide will serve to assist you in using the MIM Volunteer Portal.  Should you have any issues or questions, please contact our Volunteer Coordinator at volunteer@memphisinmay.org.

Create an Account

In order to sign up to volunteer for Memphis in May, you must first create an account.  You will be asked to provide basic contact information, emergency contact information and provide your date of birth.  All MIM Volunteers must be 18 years of age or older.  Alternatively, you can sign up using Facebook, however if you do so remember that your username will be the email you use to log in to Facebook.  You will then be prompted to answer some additional questions;  some are optional and some are required.

After successfully creating your account, you will be redirected to your user dashboard.  From the dashboard, you can see what volunteer opportunities are available.  You should also receive a confirmation email that your account has been created successfully.  Please check your spam / junk folder if you do not see the confirmation email in your inbox.  Also, please add the sender's email address as a trusted email (or designate as "not junk") as all communications regarding committee sign-ups, shifts, etc. will be through the portal.

Volunteer Opportunities

Volunteer committees and committee shifts (once available) are designated as, and can be found under, OPPORTUNITIES.  You can view additional details about each committee by clicking "View Details".  If you are interested in signing up for a committee, click on the "Respond" button at the top of the committee description page.  Once approved, you will be added to that committee's user group.  You can sign up for as many different committees as you'd like, however, some committee roles, responsibilities or time commitment may exclude you from being able to participate in another committee.

Each committee will have different shifts for sign-ups at various times before, during and after festival events.  Once these shifts are available and open for sign-ups, you will see these opportunities on your dashboard and from the OPPORTUNITIES tab.  Each shift will have a detailed description about location, date and time (and time commitment) and duties, as well as any additional special instructions.  You will only see shift opportunities for the committee(s) you have signed up for and been assigned.

To sign up for a committee shift, click the "Respond" button at the top of the shift opportunity description page.  Once approved, your shift(s) will appear on your dashboard and in your user profile.
