The GARR Committee is an Operations committee responsible for ensuring a smooth and successful production of the Great American River Run event.  This committee supports the Memphis in May staff and provides leadership and problem solving before and during the event.  Members must enforce and have full knowledge of volunteer, GARR, and event rules and regulations.

Qualifications Knowledge of competitive races. Knowledge of downtown Memphis and GARR course. *Typically must be available to work very early morning day of race.

 

Specific Duties & Responsibilities General Advise MIM staff about ways to improve GARR. Committee members must be proactive with communication. Members must attend all trainings, meetings and events for GARR volunteers. All volunteer rules as listed in the leadership and volunteer manuals will be enforced by members.  (specifically the drinking policy). GARR Steering Members are to be onsite when Runner Check-in opens and leave after the post-race activities are completed. Course Assist in planning and certification of GARR course(s). Staff, set up, operate, tear down and clean assigned water stop locations on race day. Communicate with MIM Operations / Race Management staff any issues at water stop locations or along the course. Runners Serve as ambassadors for participating elite runners. Staff, and assist with set up, operation and tear down of GARR Expo. Operate judging tent, conduct cooks’ meetings, judges’ briefings. Work with CPA sponsor who enter scoring information and provide scoring tabulations to all teams. May be assigned in the areas of Judges’ Check-in, scoring, tent coordination, blind area coordination, meat inspection or other. Attend committee orientation and training. Coordinate, manage and staff BBQ Alley. Attend committee orientation and training.
